IN FOCUS: Things that spark joy

Own your own piece of British Art History...

The Imperial War Museum has launched a capsule collection of limited edition products that have been handcrafted from the original stretcher wood from Stanley Spencer's iconic 'Shipbuilding on the Clyde' series of paintings on display at its new Blavatnik art, film and photography gallery.

The wood stretchers came into our possession after a long time in storage post the restoration of the paintings. We wanted to repurpose the wood into items that would give the story of this artistic genius a new lease of life and provide our customers a chance to own a piece of war art history. It is one of my favourite ranges as it encapsulates everything that is so special and unique about a museum shop.

Handmade in the workshops of IWM London, each item in the range is signed by Stanley Spencer (a copy of which was provided by his grandson) and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The five items in the limited edition range include a Desk Pot, Card Holder, Drinks Coaster, Art Frame (limited in edition to 11) and a Keyring in limited edition,  priced from £15 to £300.

Imperial War Museums hold one of the most significant collections of British Art in the world. Spencer was commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee in 1940 to paint the Lithgows Kingston Shipyard in Port Glasgow on the River Clyde (later acquired by the Imperial War Museum).
