A name to know … Clink Street Ceramics
Clink Street Ceramics delivers London 1990’s rave culture to the new V&A East … The work of James Sims, founder of Clink Street Ceramics, entitled ‘Rave Culture Theory ’, is a body of colourful ceramics available to buy at the new Stratford Museum store, with each one a one-off, made by hand. James, who holds an MA in architectural history, is inspired by the built environment and his studio, nestled near Shad Thames, is peppered with some of the best examples of post-modern warehouse developments, writes Rory Robertson for Living etc. It was also home to some of the country’s earliest acid house raves in the late 1980s, says James. For the V&A East collection, each pot is adorned with original rave flyers celebrating the experience, visual culture and music of the time - linking directly to the V&A East launch exhibition - The Music is Black - A British Story.
Each piece is wheel-thrown by James at the studio ‘To me, the V&A East is about celebrating creativity in all its forms, and I’m delighted to be a part of it,' said James.
